Background

Worldview Media was founded in November 2009 and is run by Andrew Horton. Since 2003 he has worked extensively in broadcast news; Video on Demand (VoD); print and online features; social media projects; and multimedia strategy (mostly in the charity, environmental, and religious sectors).

“Future potential”

Having experienced a wide spectrum of industry processes and dynamics, he saw first hand a great deal of waste in the production chain. This could be in unwise equipment purchases or insufficient training to maximise their use, but mostly due to a lack of empowerment given to a client to ensure they can take the reins of media production, if this is what was initially intended. He also realised the importance of relationships, that offering a media service is more than just the end product: it’s the process, the partnership, and the future potential of that media which is just as important.

“Sustainable”

Inspired and motivated by global political efforts to push through sustainable policies for the planet (regardless of climate change politics), he set about bringing the best of these business principles to the field of media consultancy. For example, if you pay to offset carbon, but the process of offsetting purely amounts to clearing your carbon debt to zero, that is not sustainable.

“The crux”

A better model is to not only offset the carbon, but to bring other benefits into play, like job creation, supporting local economies, and even making the offsetting process a financial investment for the company wishing to balance its carbon books. This is the crux of Worldview Media: if it’s possible to find sustainability in harnessing energy and efficiency in using resources then why not in the way we use, consume and produce media? So, the now award-winning, Worldview Media was born.
